God Changes Us To Seek After Him

A Jacob Generation

I believe God wants us to be a Jacob Generation. It’s a generation that marks Jacob’s new beginning when God changed his name from Jacob to Israel.
Look at what King David said concerning this sort of generation. “This is Jacob, the generation of those who seek Him, who seek Your face.” (Psalm 24:6 NKJV)
So how did a deceiver become a seeker?
As Jacob was coming with his family and flocks to resettle in the Promised Land, he gets a report that his brother Esau was coming with 400 men to wipe him out.
So Jacob left his family and flocks on one side of the River Jabbok while he passed over to the other side to seek after God. There he met and wrestled with the Lord throughout the night and prevailed. God then changed his name from Jacob, or “heal catcher,” to Israel, or “one who prevails with God.”
It’s this part of Jacob’s life that God wants of this and every generation. God wants us to be a generation, like Jacob, who seeks earnestly after Him.
The prophet Isaiah said, “Seek the Lord while He may be found, call upon Him while He is near.” (Isaiah 55:6 NKJV)
God is near to everyone who calls out to Him, and seeks Him with their whole heart.
God is ready to save all who call out to Him, but it also means we need to seek Him with a pure heart; a heart that knows how desperately wicked it is and seeks forgiveness.
What does it mean to seek after God? It is a yearning to inquire frequently, and a pronounced desire to enter into God’s presence. Seeking after God means persistence on the part of the seeker to reach out to God and enter into His presence.
The Apostle Paul said, “That I may know Him (Jesus) and the power of His resurrection, and the fellowship of His sufferings, being conformed to His death,” (Philippians 3:10 NKJV)
