Giving God the Praise

Giving God All Glory

You’ve done something great for God’s kingdom. That’s great. Now shut up and let God get the glory. When you glory in what God has done, then it’s vain glory.

How common is it for Christians to judge their own religious character or works through the opinions of others. But instead of praising ourselves or seeking the praise of others, we should strive for God’s approval. We need to desire the honor that comes from God alone.

This was the Apostle Paul’s point as he was describing his ministry, and commending the Corinthians for the work they had done. But then he gives this word of warning.

“Let him who boasts boast in the Lord. For it is not the one who commends himself who is approved, but the one whom the Lord commends.” (2 Corinthians 10:17-18 NIV)

What we need to understand is that it’s God who has given us whatever gift and talent we may have and excel in. Therefore, let’s not praise ourselves for what God has clearly given.

This is boasting in its most diabolical form.

When we say that it’s by our own power and ability, or when we take credit for what God has done or is doing, then all we’ve done get man’s approval, not God’s. Any self-commendation is worthless in the eyes of God and is so far from being acceptable to God that it’s nauseous.

We see how God feels when he addresses the church of Laodicea. They said they were rich really had no need of anyone’s help, even God. They were not only self-sufficient, but they were commending their ability to be a successful church in the eyes of man.

This was so nauseating to God, this lukewarm spirit, that it was vomitus. Jesus said, “Because you are lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will vomit you out of My mouth.” (Revelation 3:16 NKJV)

And so give all glory to God, He’s the one who deserves it.
