Full of Holes
We say, “Change is necessary if we’re going to survive.” But change for change sake isn’t the answer. What are America and the church changing into?
Israel thought the same way. They thought they’d done nothing wrong. But if that was the case why did the Lord asked them, “Why do you go about so much, changing your ways?” (Jeremiah 2:36a)
The Lord contended with Israel over her sin, and while He continued to bring judgment upon them for their transgressions, they continued to walk according to their own set of rules, according to what they determined was right for them.
But through Jeremiah the Lord asks, “What injustice have your fathers found in Me, that they have gone far from Me, have followed idols, and have become idolaters?” (Jeremiah 2:5)
This is what I believe the Lord is asking our nation and the church. What did the Lord do so wrong that we would ignore His word and follow that which doesn’t save, nor does it protect.
The Lord asks, “But where are your gods that you have made for yourselves? Let them arise, if they can save you in the time of your trouble?” (Jeremiah 2:28a)
Our nation is going downhill fast. We’ve turned from the will and way of God to serve the false gods of capitalism, democracy, and the gods of false religions. But let’s not forget the church. It’s followed the false gods of materialism and political correctness at the expense of God’s word.
It’s where Christians are agreeing with the world that certain sins are now permissible and that those who stand against them are the enemy instead of these sins.
And so to the church, as to Israel, the Lord says, “For My people have committed two evils: they have forsaken Me, the fountain of living waters, and hewn themselves cisterns–broken cisterns that can hold no water.” (Jeremiah 2:13)
The philosophies and gods that we are following are full of holes.
