Thought for Today: “Freedom and Integrity”

“For this is the will of God, that by doing good you may put to silence the ignorance of foolish men as free, yet not using liberty as a cloak for vice, but as bondservants of God.” (1 Peter 2:15-16)

Having integrity is about being open and honest. It’s being truthful in what we say, but also in what we do. It’s also about being transparent. But if we’re ashamed of what we’re doing, then we shouldn’t be doing it, if we do, then we’re not living in integrity.

Even though what we’re doing is legitimate, if we can’t do it in a good conscience, then we shouldn’t be doing it at all, because it is wrong for us.

Therefore, if we can’t limit our freedom for the sake of others then we’re not really free.

In speaking about the freedom we have, the Apostle Paul said, “One person’s faith allows them to eat anything, but another, whose faith is weak, eats only vegetables. The one who eats everything must not treat with contempt the one who does not, and the one who does not eat everything must not judge the one who does, for God has accepted them.” (Romans 14:2-3)
