Faith That Pleases God

Today’s Devotional: “Faith That Pleases God”

Faith is a topic that is often discussed, but I wonder whether it is the kind of faith that pleases God? (Hebrews 11:6)

Today’s Christian thinks more about faith not as a relationship but as something that allows them to get what they can from God. It is a faith more about gain than godliness, and more rooted in this world than in God. Therefore, it is a corrupted faith.

Every week, believers gather in churches to worship God and to ask Him to bless and prosper them. While there’s nothing wrong with that, the truth is they have no desire for deeper intimacy with God; rather, they come for His presents, not His presence.

A faith that pleases God first believes in God and then seeks a deep intimacy with Him. It is a faith that desires a relationship with God above all else.

This was Enoch’s faith. Enoch enjoyed such close fellowship with God that God couldn’t bear to be away from Enoch’s presence any longer, so God took Enoch to be with Him before Enoch’s life on earth ended.

“By faith Enoch was taken from this life, so that he did not experience death; he could not be found, because God had taken him away. For before he was taken, he was commended as one who pleased God.” (Hebrews 11:5)

It was because of Enoch’s faith and his close, intimate relationship with Him that God found pleasing. Enoch was fully united and in total oneness with God, and as such, his life was in complete agreement with God.

When it says that Enoch walked with God, it means that he had the closest personal relationship any human could ever have with God.

Therefore, how’s our faith? If we want to increase the kind of faith that pleases God, we should take time to be with Him. Let’s open our hearts and allow that loving relationship to deepen.

This Sunday, in our “Unprecedented Faith” series, we’ll explore Enoch and his walk of faith.
