Decision Time
I use to love watching “The Wide World of Sports.”
What always got my attention was the opening when it illustrated the words, “And the agony of defeat” with a ski jumper crashing on the ski ramp.
What I never knew is that he chose to fall rather than finish the jump. And while that seems a little stupid, it was actually the smart move. The jump surface had become too fast, and if he completed the jump he would land on level ground that could have been fatal.
Deciding to bail, the skier only suffered a headache, which is absolutely remarkable considering it looked like he would have been seriously injured.
For all those in the world today they have a similar decision to make. Their lives are going way to fast, and they are looking to end up crashing and burning if they don’t pull out and accept Jesus Christ as their Savior and Lord.
It’s decision time, and this message is seen in Joel’s prophecy.
“Put in the sickle, for the harvest is ripe. Come, go down; for the winepress is full, the vats overflow for their wickedness is great. Multitudes, multitudes in the valley of decision. For the day of the Lord is near in the valley of decision.” (Joel 3:13-14)
Multitudes are in the valley of decision. This means the decision has already been determined. Those who come against Jesus Christ at the end, those who are followers of the Antichrist, they’ve already made their decision, and their fate is sealed.
Today, we have a choice of which path we will take, the narrow path following Jesus Christ whose end is heaven, or the wide path following the world whose end is everlasting torment.
It is our choice, and our destiny. Our decision determines our destiny, and no decision is a decision against God and Jesus Christ.
The choice we make may be a little painful, but it sure beats a fatal landing in the end.
