Choose God’s Path

The church today is at a crossroads when it comes to remaining pure and living according to the way of God and His word.

Edmund Burke, 18th century statesman and philosopher from Ireland, said, “All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing.”

No decision, however, is a decision, and not to choose is the same thing as making a choice.

Throughout the Bible God tells His people to make a decision, but not just any decision, but a decision for the Lord.

At the end of his life, Joshua challenged the people to choose sides. They could choose the false gods of the nations surrounding them or they could choose the Lord.

“And if it seems evil to you to serve the Lord, choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve … But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.” (Joshua 24:15)

The prophet Elijah did the same with the children of Israel on Mount Carmel. He said, “How long will you falter between two opinions? If the Lord is God, follow Him; but if Baal, follow him.” (1 Kings 18:21)

At first they didn’t answer, but after God’s fire came down from heaven they immediately chose God.

Good choice!

But the people continued to reject God and paid the price by being subjugated to the Babylonians.

The prophet Jeremiah said, “Stand at the crossroads and look; ask for the ancient paths, ask where the good way is, and walk in it, and you will find rest for your souls. But you said, ‘We will not walk in it’” (Jeremiah 6:16)

God is calling us to decide. There is no middle ground. We cannot straddle the fence and hope for the best. Jesus said we can’t serve two masters, Matthew 6:24. We have to make a choice, and it is this choice that will decide our future and the effectiveness of God’s church.

Will we choose God’s way?
