Building Up The House of God

King David’s desire was to build a house for God. But because of war and the blood he shed, God withheld his desire and gave it to his son, Solomon.

Knowing Solomon was young and inexperienced, 1 Chronicles 22:5, David went about collecting everything Solomon would need, from timbers and stone, to the gold, silver, bronze, and iron.

But he also tasked the elders with helping Solomon. He said, “Is not the Lord your God with you? And has He not given you rest on every side? … Now set your heart and your soul to seek the Lord your God. Therefore arise and build the sanctuary of the Lord God.” (1 Chronicles 22:17-19)

Twice since then the temple was destroyed, and the ground upon which it stood still stands vacant, it will once again be built before the end. But in the meantime, God’s temple is here within every believer in Jesus Christ.

“Do you not know that you are the temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you?” (1 Corinthians 3:16)

“Do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own?” (1 Corinthians 6:19)

Within every believer dwells God’s temple. The reason is because God has given us rest and peace in Him. Therefore, the Holy Spirit is saying to us the same thing king David said to the people, “Set your heart and soul to seek the Lord, arise and build up the house of God within you.”

It’s actually a part of the Great Commission when Jesus said, “Go make disciples.”

This is our vision for discipleship here at Living Waters Fellowship. First it is for each one reach one, and then to build up the house of God, the temple of the Holy Spirit, within each person so that we can truly make a difference in our community for Christ.
