A Soulful Anchor

In this life we’re like ships tossed to and fro upon the storm tossed sea of this world. We see false religions multiplying, the fear of terrorism rising, and the economies of this world crumbling.

We need something, anything that we can lay hold of, that we can anchor our soul upon to keep us sure and steadfast. And the only thing that can anchor our soul in such a storm tossed sea of confusion is the gospel message of Jesus Christ.

The gospel message is the good news that through Jesus’s death upon the cross we can have the promise of eternal life, because as our Great High Priest, Jesus has gone before us making a way whereby all who believe in Him are made righteous before God.

“We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure. It enters the inner sanctuary behind the curtain, where Jesus, who went before us, has entered on our behalf.” (Hebrews 6:19-20a)

This is God’s promise, a promise firm and secure, because God’s counsel and oath cannot be changed, because God cannot lie (Hebrews 6:17-18).

Using the promise given to Abraham, the writer of Hebrews confirms that when God makes a promise, He fulfills it. This hope then, the writer of Hebrews continues, anchors our soul.

The Apostle Paul says we need to continue in this hope living in and for Jesus Christ being, “rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness.” (Colossians 2:7)

He then warns us not to be taken captive once again to the destructive philosophies of this world where we become tossed senseless before we anchored our soul in Jesus Christ.

Therefore, if you find yourself drifting, let the gospel message of Jesus Christ be the lifeline that brings you back to safe harbor, because it’s hell out there, and it’s hell that awaits if we pull up the anchor of our faith (Hebrews 6:4-8).
