A Promised Future

Today’s Devotional: “A Promised Future”

Because of Easter, a future in heaven is promised. Jesus wanted the disciples to know that even though He was leaving, He was coming back.

“In My Father’s house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also.” (John 14:2-3)

In John, chapters 13 through 16, Jesus gives His final instructions before He leaves, and one thing He tells them is that it won’t be easy to be His followers.

In John 16:33, He said, “In this world you will have tribulation,” and in John 15:18-20, He says that if the world hated and persecuted Him, then it will also hate and persecute us. So, He promises He’s coming back and that we’ll be with Him forever.

As I observe what’s happening in our world, I am struck by how fragile it is, and I am grateful that this world isn’t all there is to life. I find great comfort in knowing that while humanity is determined to dismantle the world, God is preparing a new world for us and building us a new home in heaven.

Therefore, our future is secure thanks to Easter and Jesus’s resurrection.

When we accept Jesus as our Savior and Lord and place our trust in Him instead of Homeland Security, we can rejoice because our confidence is in our Heavenly homeland security.

Jesus has promised us heaven as our true home in our hearts.

“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His abundant mercy has begotten us again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, to an inheritance incorruptible and undefiled and that does not fade away, reserved in heaven.” (1 Peter 1:3-4)
