Today’s 333 Devotional: “A Promised Future”
Because of Easter a future in heaven is promised. Jesus wanted the disciples to know that even though He was leaving He was coming back.
“In My Father’s house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also.” (John 14:2-3)
In John, chapters 13 through 16, Jesus is giving His final instructions before He leaves, and one of the things He tells them is that it won’t be easy being His follower.
In John 16:33 He said, “In this world you will have tribulation,” and in John 15:18-20 He says that if the world hated and persecuted Him, then it will also hate and persecute us. So, He promises He’s coming back and that we’ll be with Him forever.
As I see what’s going on in our world, I’m struck with just how fragile this world is, and I’m grateful this world isn’t all there is to life. I find great comfort knowing that while humanity is hell bent on dismantling the world, God is preparing for us a new world, and building us a new home in heaven.
Therefore, our future can be certain because of Easter.
When we accept Jesus as our Savior and Lord, and when we put our trust in Him, and not in Homeland Security, then we can be of good cheer because our trust in in our Heavenly-land security.
Jesus has made us a promise of heaven as our heart’s true home.
“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His abundant mercy has begotten us again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, to an inheritance incorruptible and undefiled and that does not fade away, reserved in heaven.” (1 Peter 1:3-4)
