Today’s 333 Easter Devotional: “A Hope that Lives”
Hope is to our spirits what oxygen is to our body. When we don’t have enough oxygen to breathe, we die. When we don’t have hope, our spirit dies.
Everyone needs hope to live, and this was at the heart of what Solomon said in Proverbs 13:12. “Hope deferred makes the heart sick, but when the desire comes, it is a tree of life.”
But such hope can never be achieved through the world. The world’s hope is more like wishful thinking.
Worldly hope is nothing more than an abstract concept with no substance to support it. But hope as defined in the Bible isn’t wishful thinking; rather it is a confident expectation and certainty.
The difference between the two is the object in which hope is placed.
The world places its hope in the human race evolving and getting better. But over the countless centuries of recorded history, humanity’s not getting better, rather it’s getting a whole lot worse.
The whole concept of the world getting better would be laughable if it wasn’t so tragically false. The crime rate, acts of terror, and environmental disasters are not only up, but are adding up.
But the object of biblical hope is steadfast and never changes. The object of biblical hope is the Lord, who doesn’t change and is the same yesterday, today, and forever (Malachi 3:6; Hebrews 13:8).
Christian hope is distinguished from worldly hope because it is based upon the fact that Jesus Christ rose from the dead, therefore it isn’t a dead hope, but a hope that’s ALIVE (Always Living In View of Eternity)
Where there is resurrection and life, there is hope.
Jesus said, “I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me, though he may die, he shall live.” (John 11:25)
Hope is therefore not some abstract concept, but it’s real and its name is Jesus Christ. So keep your eyes focused on Jesus and the future He has waiting for you.
