The Offering God Desires

Today’s 333 Devotional: “The Offering God Desires”

When looking at the offering God desires from us, it isn’t about what we offer in the tithing plate, although God’s word tells us to bring the full tithe into the House of God, and obedience to God’s word in something God desires. Nor is our offering about what we do, that is, our good works. Rather it is about our attitude toward God and His word.

Are we more interested in the Kingdom of God, or in our own kingdoms. What are we sacrificing too.

Quoting from the prophet Hosea, Jesus said, “But go and learn what this means: ‘I desire mercy and not sacrifice.’ For I did not come to call the righteous, but sinners, to repentance.” (Matthew 9:13 cf. Hosea 6:6)

Responding to King Saul’s failure to obey God, and instead desiring to offer a sacrifice instead, Samuel said, “Has the Lord as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of the Lod? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to heed than the fat of rams.” (1 Samuel 15:22)

And King David realizing the offering God desires said, “For You do not desire sacrifice, or else I would give it; You do not delight in burnt offering. The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit, a broken and a contrite heart, these, O God, You will not despise.” (Psalm 51:16-17)

And when thinking about what we are to offer that will mean the most and that encompasses what Jesus, Samuel, and David said about our offerings, the Apostle Paul encapsulates saying, “I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service.” (Romans 12:1)

And so, in the end, our offering to God, the offering He desires is that of ourselves especially when we obey His word, show grace and mercy to those in need.

So, how are we doing with our offerings?
