Thought For Today: “Making Church Your Habit”
The church habit I’m talking about isn’t a monk or nun sort of thing; rather it’s something that we need to do with frequency. The writer of Hebrews says that it is a necessity.
“Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another, and all the more as you see the Day approaching.” (Hebrews 10:25)
A habit isn’t something that is done occasionally; rather it’s something that is done on a regular and consistent basis. The reason why church attendance is to be habitual is because God has made us for relationships, and relationships are built through consistent time spent together.
This was at the heart of the first church. They made meeting together a regular and consistent habit.
“Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved.” (Acts 2:46-47)
So how is your church habit coming? Is it based upon convenience or is it based upon conviction? A convenience is when you have time for church. A conviction is when you make time for church.
