Are You Seeing Red?
January 30, 2024

Today’s 333 Devotional: “Are You Seeing Red?”

Are you seeing red? Have you reached your boiling point? Are you ready to blow up? Are your grapes wrathful? Are you angry?

Anger is an emotion God has wired all of us with.

Dr. David Seamands said, “Anger is a divinely implanted emotion. Closely allied to our instinct for right, it is designed to be used for constructive spiritual purposes. The person who cannot feel anger at evil is a person who lacks enthusiasm for good. If you cannot hate wrong, it is very questionable whether you really love righteousness. To not express anger is to not be human.”

The Bible says that we have been created in the image of God, and what we read in God’s word is that God Himself has this emotion.

“But you, O Lord, are a compassionate and gracious God, slow to anger, abounding in love and faithfulness.” (Psalm 86:15)

Even Jesus was angry and expressed that anger as He overturned tables in the Temple, or when He called the Pharisees whitewashed tombs and a pit of vipers.

While we are all going to get angry, it’s what we do with the anger that determines whether or not it is godly or sinful.

The Apostle Paul says, “Be angry, and do not sin: do not let the sun go down on your wrath, nor give place to the devil…Let no corrupt word proceed out of your mouth, but what is good for necessary edification, that it may impart grace to the hearers.” (Ephesians 4:26-27, 29)

What can you do?

  • First, identify the cause of your anger; is it based upon what is right, or your rights?
  • Next, take a deep breath and chill. The Bible says that whoever is slow to anger has great understanding.
  • Finally, control your response by giving it over to God and allowing Him to have control of your mouth and actions.

Let anger become your servant and not your master. In your anger choose not to sin.
