Today’s 333 Devotional: “Nothing But The Blood of Jesus”
There is no sin or trespass that the blood of Jesus doesn’t cleanse.
In the Old Testament, God outlined the law of sacrifice. There were burnt, grain, and peace offerings, along with sin and trespass offerings (Leviticus 1-7).
As thorough as they were, however, they could never justify or make a person right before God. They covered a person’s sin, but they never forgave the sin. Instead, they were forerunners to what God was going to do through His Son, Jesus Christ.
The Apostle Paul said, “Therefore the law was our tutor to bring us to Christ, that we might be justified by faith.” (Galatians 3:24)
It is by our faith in Jesus Christ, and through God’s amazing grace that we are justified, made right in the sight of God.
“For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast.” (Ephesians 2:8-9)
In his sermon at Antioch’s synagogue, Paul said, “Therefore, my brothers, I want you to know that through Jesus the forgiveness of sins is proclaimed to you. Through him everyone who believes is justified from everything you could not be justified from by the law of Moses.” (Acts 13:38-39)
What the Law couldn’t do, Jesus did upon the cross to set us free from the law of sin and death.
“For what the law could not do in that it was weak through the flesh, God did by sending His own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, on account of sin: He condemned sin in the flesh, that the righteous requirement of the law might be fulfilled in us who do not walk according to the flesh but according to the Spirit.” (Romans 8:3-4)
In the old hymn, “Nothing but the Blood,” the first Stanza says the only thing that can wash away our sin and make us whole again is nothing but the blood of Jesus.
