Restoring Others

Today’s 333 Devotional: “Restoring Others”

In Galatians 6:1, Paul said, “if a man is overtaken in any trespass, you who are spiritual restore such a one in a spirit of gentleness, considering yourself lest you also be tempted.”

We are told to help and gently restore others by handling the situation the way we would like others to restore us if the roles were reversed. This actually follows the golden rule to treat others as we would want them to treat us.

“Therefore, whatever you want men to do to you, do also to them, for this is the Law and the Prophets.” (Matthew 7:12)

In fact, Paul follows this same principle in Galatians 6:2. “Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ.”

We are to come alongside those who are hurting and under the burden of sin, even to the point of carrying them to Jesus so that they can yoke themselves to His loving care.

Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy to bear, and the burden I give you is light.” (Matthew 11:28-30)

And if we become weary of carrying our brothers and sisters when they are so burdened down, then Paul gives us this encouragement in verses nine and ten.

“Let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart. Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all, especially to those who are of the household of faith.” (Galatians 6:9-10)

Therefore, let’s start to help and restore those in need by bringing them to the only one who can help, Jesus Christ. And let us help them the way that we ourselves would like to be helped and restored in our time of need.
