Scripture and a Prayer: “No Idle Words”
“For every idle word men may speak, they will give account of it in the day of judgment.” (Matthew 12:36)
Prayer:
Lord, You say that it is out of the abundance of our hearts that we speak, but at the same time tell us that our hearts deceitful and desperately wicked. Therefore, let our prayer be what King David prayed, for You to search our hearts, and see if there is any wicked way within before we speak a word to anyone, so that whatever we say comes directly from Your throne, and is guided by the Holy Spirit. Let our words bring blessings and healing to those we talk to, instead of curses and death. You tell us not to let any unwholesome speech come from our mouths, but only what is helpful in building others up. Therefore, let our words be seasoned with grace. And this I ask in the name of Jesus Christ. AMEN
