Thought For Today: “When God’s Word Is Hard To Find”
“The word of the Lord was rare in those days, there was no widespread revelation.” (1 Samuel 3:1)
Three Reasons: 1) They were in open disobedience to God’s word. 2) The leaders didn’t know, nor did they teach the commandments of God. 3) They tended to listen and hear only what they wanted to hear.
There’s one verse that may explain this phenomenon. Even though God wants to speak into our lives, we are actively engaged in a practice that prevents it.
“Listen! The Lord is not too weak to save you, and he is not becoming deaf. He can hear you when you call. But there is a problem — your sins have cut you off from God. Because of your sin, he has turned away and will not listen anymore.” (Isaiah 59:1-2)
The first thing we need to do, therefore, is to confess our sins, and then repent, that is turn away from them and unto God. Make sure then to open God’s word, the Bible, and begin to follow His words, that lead us forward on this path of life.
The Psalmist said, “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.” (Psalm 119:105)
And the Apostle James said we need to be doers, not hearers of God’s word.
