Thought For Today: “The Denominational Error”
Denominations were a part of the first church. It all began in Corinth. You had the Paul denomination, Apollos denomination, and Cephas denomination. You even had the “Christ” denomination.
“One of you says, ‘I follow Paul;’ another, ‘I follow Apollos;’ another, ‘I follow Cephas;’ still another, ‘I follow Christ.’” (1 Corinthians 1:12)
And they were in as much error then as they are now. The Apostle Paul said, “Is Christ divided?”
What they had forgotten is still being forgotten today. We are all servants of the same Lord and preach the same gospel.
Why are we divided? Fleshly pride! We think that our way, our doctrine, our teaching, our modus operandi is more biblical. It has even degenerated into the way the Bible is taught, inductive verses deductive, verse-by-verse or expository.
Further, and this is the unfortunate part, denominations are filled with rules and regulations based upon man’s understanding, rather than upon God’s word and how it works upon the human heart.
But Paul brings us back to the truth and that there is only one foundation by which we all stand, Jesus Christ (1 Corinthians 3:11).
