Thought For Today: “Membership Has Its Privileges”
“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ.” (Ephesians 1:3)
Back in the 90’s American Express’s slogan was, “Membership has its privileges.” It was used in an ad campaign to boost its credit card usage.
In the world membership means receiving, being served, and rights, but membership in God’s family means giving rather than receiving, serving rather than being served, and having responsibility rather than rights. And the tithes and offering aren’t dues or membership fees.
Jesus reveals what true membership is all about when He picked up a bowl and towel to wash the disciple’s feet.
“If I then, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another’s feet. For I have given you an example, that you should do as I have done to you. Most assuredly, I say to you, a servant is not greater than his master; nor is he who is sent greater than he who sent him.” (John 13:14-16)
Members of God’s family, therefore, have the distinct privilege of serving God by serving others.
