Today’s 333 Devotional: “Fearless Faith”
In this day where viruses that kill and governments that oppress, it seems like there is little if anything that we can do. Oh, we protest on social media, get outraged over the evil and unfairness of it all, but is this really helping, or are we shouting in the wind.
But there is a way that we can combat these forces of evil lined up against humanity and the church, and that is through prayer and fasting. And while God may not deliver us, what we can gain is some much needed perspective of just what sort of battle that we are in, and how to fight effectively.
“For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.” (Ephesians 6:12)
In Numbers 14 we’re given some great advice by Joshua and Caleb when the children of Israel faced the might and strength of the inhabitants of the land God promised that they could possess.
“If the Lord delights in us, then He will bring us into this land and give it to us … Only do not rebel against the Lord, nor fear the people of the land, for they are our bread; their protection has departed from them, and the Lord is with us. Do not fear them.” (Numbers 14:8-9)
Later, when they came back to possess the land, Joshua said to the people, “Be strong and very courageous, that you may observe to do according to all the law which Moses My servant commanded you; do not turn from it to the right hand or to the left, that you may prosper wherever you go.” (Joshua 1:7)
This is the key to overcoming the present evil. We must pray, even fast, and then understand that what the Lord desires is for us to be fearless in our faith in Him and obey His word.
