Today’s 333 Devotional: “Sing A New Song”
The pinnacle of praise and worship was reached during the time of King David. He contributed more than any other to raising music to its exalted position. A look through Psalms reveals this.
David was not only a man of war, but he was also a man of worship and praise. The most striking example was when David brought the Ark of the Covenant into Jerusalem. It was done with music, singing, and dancing celebrating God’s presence in their midst.
David delivered a new song to commemorate this.
“Oh, give thanks to the Lord! Call upon His name; make known His deeds among the peoples! Sing to Him, sing psalms to Him; talk of all His wondrous works! Glory in His holy name; let the hearts of those rejoice who seek the Lord! Seek the Lord and His strength; seek His face evermore! Remember His marvelous works which He has done, His wonders, and the judgments of His mouth.” (1 Chronicles 16:8-12)
Praise is a powerful weapon in our spiritual arsenal. With a new song of praise upon our lips, and the word of God deep within our hearts, we can inflict punishment upon the forces of evil and experience great victories (2 Chronicles 20).
Therefore, being able to have a new song of praise in our hearts and upon our lips even when we are in the midst of difficulties and problems, even though we may be deep in despair as life has dealt us another disappointment, these new songs will not only give us hope, but they’ll give us patience to endure and victory in the end.
This new song may not always be one that’s just been written; in fact, it may be a song already known. What makes it a new song, however, is we make it new in our hearts. Whatever may be the case, new or old, listen to what the Spirit is saying, and allow it to fill our hearts with hope.
