Today’s 333 Devotional: “Finding Shelter”
One day, a farmer’s field caught fire. The next day after surveying the damage, he noticed one of his hens had perished in the flames. When he turned it over with his foot, three little chicks scurried from beneath her body. The hen chose not to escape but to remain to protect her children.
Jesus said the same to the Jewish people knowing that soon He would die to protect them.
“O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the one who kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to her! How often I wanted to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, but you were not willing … I say to you, you shall see Me no more till you say, ‘Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord!’” (Matthew 23:37, 39)
We see the same promise given by God and our need to abide in Him as our refuge and fortress, who dwell in the secret place of the Most High. And in essence Jesus was quoting from the Psalmist saying that He is our refuge and fortress that we should run to in our times of trials.
“He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, ‘He is my refuge and my fortress; my God, in Him I will trust.’ He shall cover me with His feathers, and under His wings I shall take refuge.” (Psalm 91:1-4a)
Therefore, let’s run to Jesus and find shelter from the fiery trials of life, and He will cover us with His wings, and we do not need to be afraid, as we are protected under the shadow of the Almighty.
King David cried out the same thing in His time of need saying, “For in the time of trouble He shall hide me in His pavilion; in the secret place of His tabernacle He shall hide me.” (Psalm 27:5)
