Today’s 333 Devotional: “Prepare to Meet Your God”
Wow, I had heard people say these words, mostly when the good guy tells the bad guy they are about to die. But I never saw this before being spoken by God to His people Israel.
Yet there it was right in front of me in my reading through the prophet Amos, a book I have read through many times.
Here God has had it with Israel’s continued sin. And while He continued to send warnings, along with showing tremendous restraint where He even sent blessings to turn them around, still they failed to stop their sinful ways and return to God.
And so, now we come to the “last straw.”
“‘I overthrew some of you, as God overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah, and you were like a firebrand plucked from the burning; yet you have not returned to Me,’ says the Lord. ‘Therefore, thus will I do to you, O Israel; because I will do this to you, prepare to meet your God, O Israel!” (Amos 4:11-12)
I wonder, have we now attained to this status. Have we continued to ignore the warning signs that judgment is near? Have we continued to ignore God’s word and move further away from the truth and what is right and accepted, even promoted, the lies and evil of the present world and the god of this world, Satan?
We’ve become a lot like Israel of old, whom the Lord says, “You who turn justice to wormwood, and lay righteousness to rest in the earth!” (Amos 5:7)
Let us, confess our sins and our waywardness, and come back to the Lord God. Let’s confess and repent before it is too late.
God in His compassion, mercy, and grace is still waiting, and is long suffering, but let’s be careful not to abuse it, because while the Lord is long suffering, He’s not forever suffering.
Therefore, let’s “Seek the Lord and live, lest He break out like fire in the house.” (Amos 5:6)
