Today’s 333 Devotional: “Seeking God’s Kingdom First”

More often than not we lack the power that will help us live our lives for God. Now this has nothing to do with the power source, that is, God, but it does have everything to do with us.

Back in 1998 there was a power shortage at an AT&T switching center that crashed their computer system leaving over a million New Yorkers without phone service. But it didn’t stop there. It also forced all New York airports to shut down for seven hours causing delays around the world.

But the problem wasn’t with the power supply; rather it was in the negligence of two employees who were running the switching station. They ignored the warning signals that the computer was about to crash.

We see a similar story in the Bible with Israel’s first king, Saul. He maintained his position of anointing, that is, king, but lost the power of that anointing when he became more concerned about his own kingdom rather than God’s, and it wasn’t until it was too late that he realized it.

Samuel said to Saul, “Because you have rejected the word of the Lord, He also has rejected you from being king.” (1 Samuel 15:23)

And while Saul made excuses Samuel said, “For you have rejected the word of the Lord, and the Lord has rejected you.” (1 Samuel 15:26)

Many believers in Jesus Christ are no different. We maintain the position of anointing, that is, we’re children of God, but we have lost much of the power that comes with that anointing, because we’re more concerned about our own kingdoms, our lives, and the things of this world than we are of God’s Kingdom.

Our loss of spiritual power, therefore, has nothing to do with the power source; rather it’s in our negligence of seeking God first in everything we do.

“But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.” (Matthew 6:33)
