In The Eye of the Storm

Today’s 333 Devotional: “In The Eye of the Storm”

Hurricanes are devastating storms creating heavy winds, floods, storm surges, damaging rain, hail, and tornadoes.

But right in the midst, right at the heart of all this destructive power there exist a place of utter calm and compete peace. Even with all the destruction it brings, in the eye of the storm there exist a calm quietness and place of safety.

Like the hurricane, there exist powerful storms that rage across the landscape of our lives leaving in its wake broken lives, broken homes, and broken marriages, not to mention problems of all shapes and sizes; financial difficulties, difficulties at work or no work, broken down car or no car, illness, disease, and even death. Or it may just be a whole bunch of small problems coming at the same time, which makes it just as unbearable as one large hurricane.

Problems are inevitable. We live in a fallen world, a world the Bible tells us is groaning in pain and anguish. We also live with and amongst fallen humanity, a people who are sinful by nature.

But here is the good news, that even in the midst of the problems and difficulties of life, even in the midst of the storm, we can have peace. We cannot only find the eye of the storm but stay in it. We can find that place of refuge and safety.

And that place is in Jesus Christ. When the storms rage about us we must remember who it was who called us, and who saved us. We must have faith in Jesus Christ the One who said, “Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.” (John 14:27)

When we place our trust in Jesus Christ then we’ll find that place of calm for our souls, that place of refuge and safety from the storm.
