Today’s Thought: “A Legacy of Service”
Today I’d like to look at living our lives according to God’s purposes, and I’d like to do so by starting out with a statement made about King David that has been one of my life verses.
It is the one verse that I would like to have written on my tombstone. It is a scripture that defines what it means to live a great life.
“For David, after he had served his own generation by the will of God, fell asleep.” (Acts 13:36a)
This is a scripture that defines a life that should move and motivate us. Can you imagine this being said about us; that we served God’s purpose for this generation and in this community; that we served God’s eternal purpose in a way that changed those around us?
But to leave such a legacy we need to make sure we serve the Lord in everything we do. Paul said, “With good will render service, as to the Lord, and not to men” (Ephesians 6:7; Colossians 3:23), and not to be lagging in such service to the Lord (Romans 12:11).
So, let’s leave behind for this next generation something to build their lives upon as we built our lives upon the Lord.
