Thought For Today: “Daily Sabbath Time”

Whenever the Sabbath is mentioned, we immediately think of the Sabbath day of rest, which for the Jews was from Friday evening to Saturday evening, and for Christians it is considered to be Sunday. But then the Apostle Paul threw a wrench into man’s thinking saying, “One person esteems one day above another: another esteems every day alike. Let each be fully convinced in his own mind.” (Romans 14:5)

But in the pureness of the word, it means a time of rest, but not just physical rest, but time to rest in the Lord.

Life is a grind. It is filled with busyness and strife. But Jesus took taking a rest one step further and gave us the antidote. It’s having alone time with God no matter when and no matter for how long.

When things were getting hectic where they didn’t even have enough time to eat, let along breathe, Jesus understood exactly what was needed. He said, “Come aside by yourselves to a deserted place and rest a while.” (Mark 6:31)

Every day is filled with troubles and trials, and to counter these so we don’t miss out on what God is doing in them and through them, we need to take some dedicated time away and spend it with God in prayer and in the reading of His word.

Take a mini-Sabbath every day, rest and recoup in God, and then see what’s next.
