Thought For Today: “He Said What?”
Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, for they don’t know what they are doing.” (Luke 23:34)
Here was a completely innocent man dying the most undeserving death, and we see Him asking God to forgive all those who are mocking Him and who acceded to His death. But not only them, but also all of us, and that is because it was our sins that put Him up there upon the cross as well.
This is the hardest thing for any of us to do, forgive when it’s so undeserving.
But with our eyes fixed on Jesus, and the example He set, and with the help of the Holy Spirit, then we can.
“Looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame.” (Hebrews 12:2)
“The Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us.” (Romans 8:26)
And in the end, we need to remember what Jesus Himself prescribed.
“If you do not forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.” (Matthew 6:15)
