Thought For Today: “Develop A Cheerful Heart”
“A cheerful heart is good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones.” (Proverbs 17:22)
And even more telling and jarring is when God says in 2 Corinthians 9:7, “So let each one give as he purposes in his heart, not grudgingly or of necessity; for God loves a cheerful giver.”
So obeying God should be a joy, not a hardship, because when it is a hardship, when it is done grudgingly, then adverse circumstances and health issues arise.
Research has shown that those who are the most impatient are those most prone to heart attacks. So, what we need to start learning is how to laugh at ourselves and at our circumstance. We need to start finding fun in our frustrations.
Having joy in what we do is then good medicine helping us live longer and healthier lives. The Living Bible says, “A rebel shouts in anger, a wise man holds his temper in and cools it.” (Proverbs 19:11)
What Solomon is telling us is to chill out. Let’s look at whatever is happening around us through the eyes and heart of God who has it all under control and has given us His directions through His word on how to live a joyful and happy life.
