God Preserves For A Purpose

Today’s 333 Devotional: “God Preserves For A Purpose”

David prayed, “Preserve me, O God, for in You I put my trust.” (Psalm 16:1)

The word “preserve,” in the Hebrew language speaks of putting a hedge or a wall of protection around someone or something. And so, David was asking the Lord to put a spiritual wall of protection about him.

The Lord said that the city of Jerusalem in the millennial reign of Christ would be like a city without walls because the Lord would “Be a wall of fire all around her, and I will be the glory in her midst.” (Zechariah 2:5)

Basically, the Lord’s saying, “I’ve got your back, you can trust in Me.”

But when we’re going through the tough times, and when all the stuff hits us all at once, kind of like what happened to Job, we begin to wonder. But God has our back and is working something out far greater than we may know, and beyond our present comprehension.

When I think about this, I consider Joseph. Talk about not knowing what was going on! He was betrayed by his brothers, sold into slavery, unjustly accused, and tossed into prison. I mean what’s up with that. If God preserves, then why was Joseph going through this when he wasn’t even at fault.

The reason is because God has a purpose beyond our present understanding. The Lord preserves us so He can do something great through each of us and through our situation.

For Joseph, God was preparing him to save His people. Joseph ended up becoming the second most powerful man in the world, second in command of Egypt. And so, the Lord put Joseph in Egypt and preserved him for just this purpose, to save His family and God’s people.

But what about us, why are we still here? Why has God preserved us through the trials and tribulations we’ve gone through?

God preserved Joseph for a purpose, and He preserves us for a purpose as well.
