Today’s 333 Devotional: “Christ’s Letter to the World”
God sends to this world personal letters of His love. But these letters aren’t written with ink; rather they are living, breathing, flesh and blood letters, that is, living messages.
These letters are you and me.
This was the Apostle Paul conclusion in his second letter to the Corinthian Church.
“You are our epistle written in our hearts, known and read by all men; clearly you are an epistle of Christ, ministered by us, written not with ink but by the Spirit of the living God, not on tablets of stone but on tablets of flesh, that is, of the heart.” (2 Corinthians 3:2-3)
Paul is saying that we are the visible expression of Jesus Christ to this lost and dying world, and we’ve been called to make Jesus known and understood; not only by the words we speak, but also by the lives we lead.
Look at what Paul goes on to say.
“Therefore, since we have this ministry, as we have received mercy, we do not lose heart. But we have renounced the hidden things of shame, not walking in craftiness nor handling the word of God deceitfully, but by manifestation of the truth commending ourselves to every man’s conscience in the sight of God.” (2 Corinthians 4:1-2)
Paul knew that this world would not read or understand God’s word, and that’s because they are from the natural world, while God’s word is spiritual (1 Corinthians 2:14).
And so, God sends us as those living, breathing, and walking Scriptures.
The power for us to be such examples is through the Holy Spirit. Just as the Holy Spirit moved upon those who wrote these words (2 Timothy 3:16, 2 Peter 1:21), so the Holy Spirit empowers us to be Jesus’s letters to the world (1 Corinthians 6:19).
So, what kind of letter are you? When others, including your children and grandchildren, read your mail, are they reading and seeing a shining manifestation of Jesus, or someone else?
