Today’s 333 Devotional: “A Heart of Compassion”
A forgiving heart is a heart of compassion that comforts others in their time of need.
Paul brings this out in 2 Corinthians 1:3-4.
“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort those who are in any trouble, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God.”
God continues to forgive us, showing His unmerited favor and unconditional love, and we should be doing and showing the same thing. Shouldn’t we show the same compassion God has shown us? Shouldn’t we comfort others the same way God has comforted us?
This is the heart of Jesus.
“Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.” (Matthew 11:29)
In like manner we’re to bear one another’s burdens. The Apostle Paul said, “Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ.” (Galatians 6:2)
This was also at the heart of what Paul told the Colossian Church.
He said, “As the elect of God, holy and beloved, put on tender mercies, kindness, humility, meekness, longsuffering; bearing with one another, and forgiving one another.” (Colossians 3:12-13a)
A forgiving heart is a heart that is filled with compassion.
