The Sin of Offense

Thought For Today: “The Sin of Offense”

The one thing that stops a work of the Lord within a person’s life, and within the church, is when someone feels like they have been offended. Because of this, the person leaves the ministry God has called them to, as well as the church, rarely to walk through the doors of any church, or to get involved in ministry again.

When Jesus went back to His hometown of Nazareth and began to teach, the people, while astonished at His wisdom, were offended. Because of this it says that He could not do a mighty work (Mark 6:1-5).

The Spirit of offense is dangerous because it is allowing someone or something else to control our action and destiny. And this is a sin, because we’ve allowed someone or something other than Jesus to be our lord.

It’s the Lord that determines our destiny, not someone or something else. So, let’s stop making ourselves unavailable for God to do a mighty work within us by choosing to be offended.

“O Lord, I know the way of man is not in himself; it is not in man who walks to direct his own steps.” (Jeremiah 10:23)
