Thought for Today: “Eyes Wide Open”
We need to come before the Lord with minds open to hear from Him, and not closed off with our own understanding or doctrine.
When Balaam tried to curse Israel, he didn’t go before God with his mind set on the curse, rather it was open to hear what the Lord was saying.
To Balak, king of Moab, Balaam said, “Did I not tell the messengers you sent me, ‘Even if Balak gave me all the silver and gold in his palace, I could not do anything of my own accord, good or bad, to go beyond the command of the Lord—and I must say only what the Lord says.’” (Numbers 24:12-13)
Therefore, at each of His prophecies Balaam said, “The prophecy of Balaam son of Beor, the prophecy of one whose eye sees clearly, the prophecy of one who hears the words of God, who has knowledge from the Most High, who sees a vision from the Almighty, who falls prostrate, and whose eyes are opened.” (Numbers 24:15-16)
The Apostle Paul prayed that the believers in Ephesus that the eyes of their understanding be enlightened to know the hope of God’s calling and the riches of His inheritance through the spirit of wisdom and revelation (Ephesians 1:17-18).
