Today’s 333 Devotional: “Getting Out of the Rut”
One of the Christian’s biggest enemies is coming to the place where everything is predictable, customary, and routine. This is a place where nobody expects God to do anything unusual or out of the ordinary. It is where miracles are talked about in the past, but they’re not expected in the present or future.
It’s called a rut.
Will Rogers said, “When you find yourself in a hole, stop digging.”
This is the Lord’s advice as well when we find ourselves stuck in the rut of the same old same old. This is what the Lord said to the children of Israel when they were stuck walking in circles for 40 years, thinking the same thoughts, eating the same food, and expecting the same tomorrow as yesterday.
“The Lord our God spoke to us in Horeb, saying: ‘You have dwelt long enough at this mountain. Turn and take your journey … See, I have set the land before you; go in and possess the land.’” (Deuteronomy 1:6-7a, 8a)
To get out of the ruts of life we need to possess the spirit of expectancy, that is, expecting God to do great and mighty things. Expecting God to send a revival to renew and rejuvenate flagging spirits and sagging hearts.
It begins by spending time with God and getting renewed in the spirit of your mind. Don’t let the Bible be a bunch of words written on a page, rather let God’s word speak directly to you. To accomplish this, pray and spend quality time reading and studying the Bible, waiting on God to speak to your heart.
And when you go to church, yes you do need to go to church, allow the Holy Spirit free reign by expecting Him to do great and mighty things, things you don’t even know.
God wants to move you into all of His promises. So, stop digging and begin expecting God to lift you up and carry you over His threshold.
