Thought for Today: “Getting Unstuck”
When confronted with Jesus as the Messiah, the people and the religious leaders found themselves stuck on who and what the Messiah was to be, never realizing that the Messiah was more than their thoughts, concepts, and ideas.
They thought the Messiah was to come as a conquering king, to liberate Israel from its Roman oppression. And while they were right to an extent, the Messiah would come as King, they never considered the Scriptures which spoke of Him coming as a suffering servant, taking upon Himself our sins (Isaiah 53).
Nor did they consider Him as being the Lord Himself (Isaiah 7:14; 48:16, Jeremiah 23:5-6)
That is why Peter’s declaration as so important. Jesus asked His disciples, “Who do you say that I am,” and Peter replied, “You are the Christ (Messiah), the Son of the living God,” a direct reference to Psalm 2:7.
Therefore, as we approach this Resurrection Sunday, let’s not to get so stuck in our presupposition and let’s allow the Holy Spirit to direct our thoughts through the intake of God’s word, and proclaim the truth to this world stuck in its own false narrative.
“Do not conform to the pattern of this world but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.” (Romans 12:2)
