Thought for Today: “Members of God’s Family”

I remember an old commercial said, “Membership has its Privileges!” This is especially true for those who have been adopted into the family of God through belief in Jesus Christ.

The Apostle Paul said, “For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out, ‘Abba, Father.’” (Romans 8:15)

Paul is saying that through belief in Jesus Christ we are no longer slaves to this world; rather we are sons and daughters of God, and thus heirs of heaven.

One day all who believe in Jesus, and who are now members of God’s family, will be going home. Not our earthly home, but our heavenly home that Jesus has especially prepared for us.

Jesus said, “I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also.” (John 14:3)

Therefore, membership in the family of God definitely has its privileges, which not only includes heaven when this life is over, but an abundant life while we’re waiting (John 10:10; Matthew 6:33).
