Today’s 333 Devotional: “Seize the Second”
When we woke up this morning, did we know God only gave us 86,400 seconds in today’s bank of time? The only bad part about this time bank is that no interest is ever earned. Once a second is over there’s no getting it back, nor can we put it away to earn more. There’s no drawing against yesterday’s seconds, nor can we draw against tomorrow’s seconds. All we have is this second, and now it’s used up.
If we fail to use the seconds God has given us there’s no second chance to get them back (No pun intended).
All we can do is invest our seconds wisely, which means we must live in the present and make good investments with the time God has so graciously given to us for His Kingdom purposes.
A popular Latin phrase is “Carpe dium,” or “Seize the Day.”
This is what the Psalmist had in mind when he told us we only have so much time on earth before it’s over and we enter into eternity. He prays, “Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.” (Psalm 90:12)
We can always make more money, but we can never make more time. Therefore, we need to invest the time God’s already given us. So, let’s take the Apostle Paul’s advice to heart.
“Brethren, I do not count myself to have apprehended; but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead, I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 3:13-14)
Let’s seize every second for God in everything we do, from time with family and friends, to our time at work or even in rest. Invest the time God has so graciously given for His Kingdom as we live in this one.
Instead of saying, “Carpe dium,” let’s change it to “Carpe secundus,” or “Seize the Second.”
