Today’s 333 Devotional: “God’s Calling is Irrevocable”
How long will it take before we finally get it? Take a look at the story of God’s call on Moses’s life.
“Then Moses answered and said, ‘But suppose they will not believe me or listen to my voice; suppose they say, ‘The Lord has not appeared to you.’ So, the Lord said to him … Then Moses said to the Lord, ‘O my Lord, I am not eloquent, neither before nor since You have spoken to Your servant; but I am slow of speech and slow of tongue.’ So the Lord said to him … But (Moses) said, ‘O my Lord, please send by the hand of whomever else You may send.’ So the anger of the Lord was kindled against Moses.” (Exodus 4:1-2a; 10-11a, 13-14a)
At the first two requests Moses attempted to remove himself from God’s call along with his responsibility. But God reassured him of His own presence going with him through the working of miracles, and then through God’s personal assurance and promise.
Yet Moses still balked at the idea, and so God became angry at these constant excuses. But even then, God’s grace and mercy prevailed as He sent Aaron to be Moses’s mouthpiece.
God has a calling on all our lives, and while we constantly balk at the notion, God’s calling is irrevocable. And while we may feel inadequate, much like Moses, God gives us everything we need to fulfill what He’s called us to do, because like His calling, His gifts are irrevocable as well (Romans 11:29).
Look how God conveys this to Moses.
“Who has made man’s mouth? Or who makes the mute, the deaf, the seeing, or the blind? Have not I, the Lord? Now therefore, go, and I will be with your mouth and teach you what you shall say.” (Exodus 4:11-12)
So, we can move forward with confidence knowing that God has given us everything we need, including His grace to see us through to the end.
