Thought for Today: “Welcome Back”

No matter how far we may have strayed, our heavenly Father is always waiting with open arms to welcome us back home.

In the parable of the Prodigal Son, the young man finally realized his mistake and heads back home, but he isn’t met with a stern glare and reproachful speech; instead, when the father sees his wayward son he runs to him and throws his arms around him and welcomes him back home.

After putting on the son his best robe, along with the family ring the father said, “For this my son was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found.” (Luke 15:24)

Whenever the parable of the Prodigal Son is taught, emphasis is laid upon how the son came to his senses and how we need to come to our senses and confess our sins so our relationship with our heavenly Father can be made right.

But what makes all this possible is the realization that God our Father is just waiting to welcome us back home as well as He runs to us. When we realize God’s wonderful and amazing love, then confession, repentance, and a return is made so much easier.
