Thought For Today: “Deserving”
Thank God we don’t get what we deserve.
“Know therefore that God exacts from you less than your iniquity deserves.” (Job 11:6b)
While Zophar, one of Job’s four friends, wrongly assumed Job’s suffering was a direct result of sin, the things in which he spoke is nonetheless true.
The Bible makes it clear that we are all sinners. In Romans 2:23, the Apostle Paul says, “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.”
But thanks to God we don’t get what our sins deserve, which is death.
Paul also goes on to say, “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” (Romans 6:23)
Instead, God provided a way out of our sinful predicament through His Son, Jesus Christ.
“But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” (Romans 5:8)
Jesus said, “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.” (John 3:16)
As we go about our day, and the rest of our life, let’s give thanks to God who rescued us and gives us grace and mercy instead of what we truly deserve, eternal death.
