Thought for Today: “The Surrendered Life”

Jesus described the surrendered life. He said, “If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow Me.” (Luke 9:23)

A surrendered life is a life lived in accordance with the cross of Jesus. It’s a cross life. It is a life lived in submission to our Creator.

The best illustration of this type of life is found in what the prophet Isaiah said about the life of clay in the hands of a potter.

“But now, O Lord, You are our Father; we are the clay, and You our potter; and all we are the work of Your hand.” (Isaiah 64:8)

The clay has given up its right to be whatever it wants to be what is in the mind and heart of the potter. Isaiah is saying we are the clay, and the Lord is the potter. As clay we have given up our right to be whatever we want. We are surrendered and submitted to the will of God and His design and shape for our life.

“And the vessel that he made of clay was marred in the hand of the potter; so he made it again into another vessel, as it seemed good to the potter to make.” (Jeremiah 18:4)

A surrendered and submitted life says, “Lord, You have the right to make me whatever You want to make me, and to put me wherever You want to put me.” It’s having a heart totally surrendered to God and submitted to His will.
