Today’s 333 Devotional: “Standing in the Gap”
The Lord is looking for someone; will He find us ready to stand the gap?
God told to Jeremiah to look and see if he could find just one, and if he could, then God would forgive and not bring about destruction.
“Run to and fro through the streets of Jerusalem; see now and know; and seek in her open places If you can find a man, if there is anyone who executes judgment, who seeks the truth, and I will pardon her.” (Standing in the Gap)
But no one could be found!
God also looked for such a man prior to Jerusalem’s destruction.
“I looked for a man among them who would build up the wall and stand before me in the gap on behalf of the land so I would not have to destroy it, but I found none.” (Ezekiel 22:30)
Our country is facing a time of such judgment, and the Lord is searching for those who will stand in the gap and seeks and lives by God’s truths.
In a vision Isaiah saw the Lord and immediately He realized his own unworthiness, and that his righteousness was nothing more than a filthy blood-soaked rag.
The Lord then sent an angel with coals from the heavenly alter and touched Isaiah’s mouth and the Lord said, “See, this has touched your lips; your guilt is taken away and your sin atoned for.” (Isaiah 6:7)
Just as Isaiah saw that His righteousness fell short of God’s holiness, so does all of ours. But God has touched us with His grace when He sent His Son, Jesus Christ, to take our place and die the death we all deserve.
Therefore, we stand before God in Christ’s righteousness.
God is calling out to us as He called out to Isaiah saying, “Whom shall I send, and who will go for Us?” And like Isaiah let’s become that one and stand in the gap saying, “Here am I! Send me.” (Isaiah 6:8)
