God Pursues Us

Today’s 333 Devotional: “God Pursues Us”

Over the years I’ve realized an important truth, the Lord desire our presence. So desirous is the Lord for our presences that He has promised His presence to everyone who desires it back. And so passionate is the Lord about this that He was willing to lower Himself to our level, that is, He became human being.

Of Jesus, the Apostle Paul writes, “Who, being in the form of God, did not consider it robbery to be equal with God, but made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bondservant, and coming in the likeness of men. And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross” (Philippians 2:6-8).

Jesus was so desirous of maintaining this relationship after His death and resurrection He said, “And lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” (Matthew 28:20a)

This was how it was in the beginning. God was so desirous for such intimacy with His creation, that every day He would walk the Garden with them. But that intimacy was broken when sin entered the picture, and the awful testimony is that Adam and Eve hid themselves from the Lord’s presence.

Can you imagine that? Here are Adam and Eve, created and abundantly blessed by God, hiding from Him. But God wasn’t going to have any of that nonsense, so there was God walking in the garden calling out, “Where are you?”

How tragic. Adam and Eve were willing to identify themselves more with their sin than with the Lord, and as a result avoid the Lord’s presence altogether. So, they hid themselves hoping that God would leave them alone.

But God did the exact opposite; He pursued them. Did you catch that? God was pursuing them.

We try to hide ourselves from God, but God pursues us so that we can have that life changing personal encounter and relationship with Him.
