Thought For Today: “Responding Rightly”

When confronting the hot button issues of our day, how do people see us? Do we respond in love or in righteous indignation? Do those around us see Jesus in us, or a Pharisee? Have we become what we say we’re against?

Yes, we are to speak the truth of God’s word to the situation, but we are to do so out of pure and absolute love, not out of “righteous indignation.”

The Apostle Paul said, “Instead, speaking the truth in love, we will grow to become in every respect the mature body of him who is the head, that is, Christ.” (Ephesians 4:15)

Jesus said we are to love others as He has loved us, and we see that love as He went to the cross to die for us so that our sins could be forgiven.

“But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” (Romans 5:8)

And so, we respond rightly when we respond with the love of Christ, realizing that this was us not so long ago.

“A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” (John 13:34-35)
