Thought For Today: “The Fire of Revival”
The fire of revival is the most immediate need of our day.
In a scene from the Chosen, we see Matthew trying to find wood for the fire. Unfortunately, he was looking in a ravine, where only wet wood would be found.
I think this describes the church more than we would like to admit. We call for revival meetings, we develop programs, organize prayer meetings and the like. And there is absolutely nothing wrong with any of these.
But I think we forgot one thing, and that is, we’ve forgotten to invite the Holy Spirit. We’re looking for revival, but forget that revival is a work of God, not a work of man.
Jesus told the disciples, “Behold, I send the Promise of My Father upon you; but tarry in the city of Jerusalem until you are endued with power from on high.” (Luke 24:49)
And while they were there “waiting,” it says, “Suddenly there came a sound from heaven, as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting. Then there appeared to them divided tongues, as of fire, and one sat upon each of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit.” (Acts 2:2-4a)
Unfortunately, what began in Holy Spirit fire has now become more like religious embers. Therefore, it’s time we began to fan to flame through the power of the Holy Spirit these embers of religion into the fiery flames of revival.
