Head Over Heels

Today’s 333 Devotional: “Head Over Heels”

While it makes no sense, God is head over heels in love with us.

It makes no sense because there’s nothing about us that God would love. Even though we were made in God’s image and according to His likeness, we so marred what God so lovingly created through sin that it would seem He would want nothing more to do with us.

But not God! He loves us with an everlasting love.

“Know that the Lord your God, He is God, the faithful God who keeps covenant and mercy for a thousand generations with those who love Him and keep His commandments.” (Deuteronomy 7:9)

Through the prophet Hosea, God reveals His great and unchanging love towards us. Using the marriage of the prophet Hosea to the prostitute Gomer, God likens this love story to His love for us, even though we continue to sin.

God said, “How can I give you up, O Ephraim? How can I surrender you, O Israel? … My heart is turned over within Me, all My compassions are kindled. I will not execute My fierce anger; I will not destroy Ephraim again. For I am God and not man, the Holy One in your midst, and I will not come in wrath.” (Hosea 11:8-9)

Roughly translated, “How can I possibly wipe you out even though you sin. I’m head over heels in love with you.”

This love is revealed towards us today.

“But God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners.” (Romans 5:8)

Jesus is so head over heels in love with us that He came to this earth to betroth Himself to us and sealed the deal by dying upon the cross.

We are now His bride, and as such we need to remain pure and holy until we are with Him in heaven and seated at the Marriage Supper of the Lamb.

God is head over heels in love with you.
