Thought for Today: “You Shall Not Pass”
This phrase has become famous in Tolkien’s series, “Lord of the Rings,” where Gandalf faces the Balrog.
But its truth is seen in the Bible when there comes a point in life that God will not let us go any further.
When Saul sought to arrest and execute David, God would only allow Saul to go so far, but no further.
While David was with the prophet Samuel, Saul came seeking him, but before he even got close the Spirit of the Lord came upon Saul and stopped him from fulfilling that which was against the will of God.
“But the Spirit of God came even on him, and he walked along prophesying until he came to Naioth. He stripped off his garments, and he too prophesied in Samuel’s presence. He lay naked all that day and all that night.” (1 Samuel 19:23-24)
It’s comforting to know that God’s will and purpose will overrule my plans when they directly oppose His.
There are many plans in a man’s heart, nevertheless the Lord’s counsel–that will stand.” (Proverbs 19:21)
