The Choice of Faith

Today’s 333 Devotional: “The Choice of Faith”

We live in a society that teaches us to “pass the buck.” They say blame someone or something else for the problems we have.

The Bible, however, supports taking personal responsibility for the choices we make.

Making good choices is one of the keys to having an effective faith in a society that has lost its way. Using Moses’ life as recorded in Hebrews chapter 11, we can see how faith impacts our choices.

First, faith makes courageous choices.

By faith Moses’ parents hid him for three months (Hebrews 11:23). And by faith they put Moses in a basket and sent him down the Nile where Pharaoh’s daughter found and raised him.

Faith involves making choices that take us out of our comfort zone. When did we last step out by faith and did something that involved risk because of what God said? When did we last speak about our faith or ask someone about becoming a Christian?

Second, faith chooses the right way over the easy way.

The writer of Hebrews tells us that Moses refused to be called the son of Pharaoh’s daughter. Instead, he chose to be mistreated along with the people of God (Hebrews 11:24-25).

There’s a principal here that many miss. By refusing, Moses was choosing. Moses was choosing the road less traveled, forsaking the easy way for the right way.

Third, faith chooses based on God’s vision.

The writer of Hebrews says Moses forsook Egypt, not fearing Pharaoh, because he saw the Lord by faith (Hebrews 11:27).

Faith believes there’s a future. Faith believes God has a plan and we’re a part of His kingdom purposes. And by faith we believe in heaven once this life is over. Our choices should therefore reflect this belief.

We make choices every day, and we live and die by these choices. The choices we make determine what we believe. Therefore, we need to let our faith in Jesus Christ guide and direct the choices we make.
